Both my wife and I work with Salesforce for our day jobs. She works as a Business Analyst, configuring Salesforce to meet the project requirements, while I work for Salesforce as a Program Architect going where they need me to go.

During my time implementing Salesforce I came across situations where the practical faced off against the best practices and sometimes what was practical had to go against the best practices. You might ask me why it had to be so. Much like Captain Jack Sparrow and other pirates thought of the Pirate Code as guidelines rather than laws to be strictly followed, I look at best practices as a guideline. You should try to follow them whenever possible, but if the present situation runs contrary to what these best practices say, we should be flexible enough to break from them.
